My Type of Chicken Cordon Bleu

I hate to admit it, but Amber’s recent confinement did my tummy 1 good thing -- Nitz’ Creamy Chicken Cordon Bleu!

I can’t understand why I only get to taste Nitz’ Restaurant’s homemade-tasting food whenever someone in the family is hospitalized or have to visit a doctor. Probably, because the nearest branch to us is in front of FEU-NRMF Hospital.

The first time I tried this creamy Cordon Bleu was when my father-in-law was in the hospital. Next, was after I gave birth. Then followed by when we had to have Amber checked. And as hard as it is to believe that I was able to stay away from it for too long, it is only now I get to eat it again, thanks to the Hubby who bought me a take-out dinner when Amber was in the hospital.

Look at that sumptuous meal...

This picture is from Nitz’ website. I wasn’t able to take a picture of my actual dinner because I have devoured it even before I thought of taking a photo of it.

The Hubby got himself their TapSiLog...

This, I agree, is also yummy but will never equal my favorite Cordon Bleu. Hehe! :)

Recipe: Pancakes with Bacon Bits

That Bacon Waffles from Pancake House have been haunting me for days...

So in my earnest efforts to (lose weight?) save ^_^, I made my own version of a Bacon Pancake.

Ingredients:
-1 small pack of Maya Instant Pancake Mix
-1 medium-sized egg
-1 cup water
-Crunchy Bacon Bits
-Butter for cooking

How I did it?
1. Prepare the pancake batter by following the instruction on the box. Easy-peasy, isn't it?
2. Mix in the bacon bits, which Ate Judith fried to a crisp!

3. Drop about ¼ cup of the batter in a non-stick pan over medium heat.

My favorite part is when bubbles start to form. That means, it’s time to turn the pancakes and cook the other side!

4. Spread butter and serve while they’re hot!

I love the crispiness in every bite!

Remember, the more the bacon bits, the better -- it would make your pancakes tastier and crunchier!

Homemade Sushi

Don’t you just love receiving pasalubongs? I do! I do!

Whenever my boss’ Korean business partners come here, they never fail to bring us these delectable Korean goodies...

This particular brand of dried seaweeds is so good!

I brought home some seaweeds and made them into homemade sushi...
Just top the seaweeds with a spoonful of rice, a slice of ripe mango, a piece of any viand you have available (I used roasted chicken on this one. We tried canned tuna, too. The taste is more complimentary). Every bite is just so MASS-ISSNEUN! :D

Another Fun Way Of Cooking Hotdogs!

Oven toasters... I have this newfound respect for you.

I often thought that oven toasters are only used for, yes of course, toasting breads,... re-heating fried or baked anything,...

But we were able to enjoy a freshly cooked and made hotdog sandwich in the office courtesy of our almost taken for granted oven toaster!

Cool, huh!? ;-)

It’s so easy!

We made spiral cuts around the hotdog (PF TJ Kingsize, it must be! ^_^). Aside from it will look good when it’s cooked, it also ensures that it will be cooked evenly. Spread a generous amount of margarine. Set the oven toaster at high for 10 minutes (maybe more if you want your hotdog cooked to a crunch. Pop in the hotdogs. Turn them once in a while. Let your office smell of roasted meat and imagine being in a poolside barbecue party.

Squeeze on some mustard and kechup and you have yourself one yummy snack!

Warning: Turn on your exhaust fan if you’re doing this inside an airconditioned room. J

Rufo’s Famous Tapa

After our trip to Jacob’s Ladder Immunization Center, the Hubby and I would just eat any food that’s within our reach. Hanggang langit ata ang gutom namin. Our fault though. We skipped breakfast for fear that we will not make it on time to Jacob’s. Good thing, they don’t have lunch breaks. Yeap, they still accommodate patients even at 12 noon.

So ayun, traversing Alabang-Zapote Road going to Alabang, baling-bali ang leeg ko kasisilip sa mga nearby restaurants. I was supposed to settle with Lido Panciteria when the Hubby made mention of Rufo’s Tapa, which is behind Lido. Upon hearing the name, may nag-flashback na kwento sa isip ko from one of the blogs I’ve read. So ayun, mega-park agad kami!

The Hubby gave his order first. Miss Server took my drink and repeated the order agad.

Miss: You ordered for 1 Famous Tapa, 1 Tocino, 1 Bottomless Iced Tea, 1 Bottomless Orange Juice and 1 Leche Flan. Thank you...

Me: Wait, wala pa akong order kaya.

Miss: Ay, kay Sir lang po ba lahat yun? Akala ko po Ma’am kasama na kayo dun.

Ayun, ganun ka-gutom si Husbandry at 2 plates agad ang sa kanya.

Verdict. We both loved the Tapa! The sauce especially. Totoo yung tag line nila na ‘Sauce pa lang, ulam na!’. Too bad they only have limited branches around the metro. I seriously wish they would open more branches soon, like sa Alabang and Fairview? Hehe!

The Hubby was even asking me the day after if there is a Rufo’s near to our place. Adik!

McDonald’s Twister Fries + Iced Coffee with Vanilla

I have always fancied McDonald’s Twister Fries so I’m always on the lookout because it has gone and back, gone and back several times. J

Now, it has stayed for a longer time and I am so happy!

Perfect afternoon snack especially when paired with Iced Coffee with Vanilla. This is more acceptable to my tastebuds than their coffee float. J

Oh! McDonald’s Iced Mocha is the best McCafe concoction I had so far! You should try it.

Recipe: Breaded Bacon-Wrapped Prawns

Nanay brought her Bacon-wrapped Prawn recipe to another level!

Same recipe with the addition of 1 slightly-beaten Egg and Bread Crumbs.

When you’re done with the original recipe, just dip the prawns on the egg then cover it with the bread crumbs before frying. That’s it! No need for a rain dance! ^_^

I haven’t really thought of the best dip so far so you can try whatever suits you. Enjoy! Nom-nom.

Coffee Float Galore

Hey! Hey! Hey! What do we have here?

Sorry for the poor lighting.

McDonald’s now also offers Coffee Float! And because I liked that of Jabibi’s, I immediately ordered for McDo’s version and what did I find out?

It has a very strong brewed coffee taste! Very strong for me since I am not really a coffee person. The ice cream and chocolate didn’t help subdue the bitterness of the coffee. In fact, I could not taste the chocolate syrup at all!

It offers bitterness up to the last sip. L

Magnum Choco-Cappuccino

By this time, a lot of people had already gotten over the Magnum craze. I haven’t yet! It is still my favorite ice cream bar to date!

I was first drawn to the Truffles flavor. Simply because I’m a 100% chocolate-lover.

Then nung nagsawa na ko sa Truffles and I missed biting nuts in my ice cream bar, naging favorite ko na si Almond. I always like my ice cream with nuts. It gives texture kasi sa ice cream.

Just recently, Magnum Choco-Cappuccino caught my attention.

The Hubby and I tried it yesterday. For me, it’s a bit short of the cappuccino flavor. Naubos ko na yung isang bar yet, hinahanap ko pa rin yung coffee flavor. What I love about it are the sugar bits in the chocolate coating. At first, I thought they were toffee bits, pero when I read the ingredients, sugar bits lang pala but it has this sweet-caramel flavor. ^_^

I will definitely give it another try before I go back to Magnum Almond, baka-sakaling mag-improve ang lasa nya sa taste buds ko. Teehee!

Seafood By The Bay, Subic

When we searched the net for a good place to dine at Subic, Seafood By The Bay easily got our attention because of its promise of fresh seafood.

It is located along Waterfront Road. You won’t get lost as long as you drive along the bay. The restaurant is along the boardwalk. It would’ve been great to dine Al Fresco but because of the stormy weather, we just had to enjoy the view from inside their spacious restaurant.

The fish looked as if they dove into the glass wall from the sea. So creatively done!

Amber here is feeling a bit impatient as she waits for the food.

Good thing we were the only diners that time, we didn’t have to wait too long for the food to be cooked. When our lunch arrived, parang fiesta!
Yang Chow Fried Rice (PhP280.00)

I know that this is not in the seafood category but this is what I loved the most of all that were served on our table!
Spare Ribs with Salt & Pepper (PhP240.00)

I wished we split this order in 2 dishes. This particular dish is a little bland for my taste. There is not even a hint of garlic as you bite in it.
Butter & Garlic Shrimp (PhP561.00)

This dish was picked by the Hubby. Madali daw kasing balatan. LOL! I love the lemon-butter sauce. A bit overcooked nga lang. And I find it way too expensive!
Grilled Mother Prawn w/Lemon & Butter (PhP600.00)

The Hubby who is always the fried chicken person liked this but I find it dry. The skin though is so crispy.
HK Style Fried Chicken Half (PhP250.00)

Like the Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs, I liked the taste of this calamari as well. It was cooked just right -- the coating was crispy, the squid meat is tender. Amber ate a few bites until she realized it was spicy. After that, she didn't want to eat it anymore. "Mahanghang" daw!
Calamari Salt & Pepper (PhP215.00)

We also got Nido Soup with Crab Meat (PhP250.00), which I hoped we just did not order. It's just soup full of chicharon bits. I didn't even taste the crab meat in it. :(

It took all our might not to lunge at the food as soon as it was served and smile for a photo op.
Hmmm, why do I look like I'm pregnant here?! Or do I look like that all the time?! Sigh!

After the meal, ayan, re-charged na ang mag-ama.

We left the restaurants with tummies full and left-overs that will be our lunch tomorrow. We will definitely come back and try their other dishes on our next Subic trip. ^_^

Manang’s Chicken

Can’t remember where I’ve heard or read about Manang’s Chicken. What I'm sure of is that I made a mental note that if the Hubby asks me to meet him at Megamall after work, I will definitely ask him to try Manang’s Chicken. And it happened yesterday, hurrah!

It carries the tagline, ‘Ang Bagong Fried Chicken ng Pinoy!’.

Their prices are all so affordable!

We ordered 2-pc meal for the Hubby and 1-pc meal for me, both mildly spicy. They both came with a cup of rice and iced tea and costs P149 and P99. Just add P5 and you’ll already have your drink upgraded.

Sorry about this picture, the Hubby and I were already halfway through our meals when he reminded me to take a picture of it so I can make kwento about it. Don’t you just love supportive husbands? ^_^

The chicken by the way is fried to a crisp. Then they would ask you what sauce you prefer. At first, I thought the sauce was meant to be the gravy that I know. I was surprised when the attendant dipped the chicken to a black sauce that looked like soysauce. After that, she sprinkled them with sesame seeds. It looked like chicken teriyaki when handed to me.

We also had chips as side dish with cheese dip.

So how did it fare?

The Hubby’s comment was that the chicken was okay. Although he isn’t fond of spicy food, he said that the spiciness is tolerable. The chips, we both liked! But the chicken, he said was so-so for him.

But – That came from someone who is so picky at what he eats. And a self-confessed not-adventurous-when-it-comes-to-food guy. Yeap, he still prefers the old-fashioned fried chicken.

Now, ask me! Ask me!

I love it!!! It really tasted like chicken teriyaki minus the ginger. I like that it’s sweet and a bit spicy. I am so going to try their super spicy sauce next time. And the skin is so crispy! For those who are not fond of sweet-tasting chicken, medyo may umay-factor lang pero overall, I really, really liked it! Uulit pa ko, promise! ^_^

Go visit 'Manang' at the Ground Floor Food Court of Megamall Bldg. A!

McDonald’s Big N' Tasty Burger

I am craving for McDo’s Big N' Tasty Burger! Graaah! Aktwali, last week pa itong cravings na ito but whenever I had the chance to get hold of that mighty burger, either I am still full or I wanted to eat Twister Fries, too. I cannot eat the burger with anything else anymore because it’s too heavy for me. I really had a hard time finishing the entire burger.

My first BNT experience a few months ago.

But I love it! The burger patty isn’t juicy but there is certain creaminess in it that I like! And I love its dressing, too! Argh! Can’t wait to get my hands on a Big N' Tasty Burger soon.

Papano ba naman ako maglo-lose ng weight nito?!?! Aaargh!
